Announce noble Arbad’s death to the noble.

Announce the death of the chief, tender of heart,

Who bestows gifts and gives his wealth to be praised—

White she-camels likened to herds of untamed wild cattle.

Lavish in bounty whenever it is counted,

And he fills the great serving-bowl to the brim,

In abundance, when a destitute man comes seeking refreshment.

Like the one in the thicket who ranges through Jumud,

He draws ever nearer to them when threatened.

You bequeathed us the legacy of one who was no miser:

Prosperity and wealth, newly acquired and long-held,

Young falcons—youths nearing manhood and beardless boys.
