ما بالُ مولىً أَنتَ ضامِنُ غَيّهِ

ما بالُ مولىً أَنتَ ضامِنُ غَيّهِ

فَإِذا رَأَيتَ الرُشدَ لَم يَرَ ما تَرى

فَإِذا رَأَيتَ الرُشدَ لَم يَرَ ما تَرى

What ails an ally whose waywardness you answer for?

What is it, my Lord, that you guarantee the misguided one,

For when you see the right course, he does not see what you see.

So when you see righteousness, it does not see what you see.

وَتَرى المَساعي عِندَهُ مَطلولَةً

وَتَرى المَساعي عِندَهُ مَطلولَةً

كَالجودِ يُمطِرُ ما يُحَسُّ له ثَرَى

كَالجودِ يُمطِرُ ما يُحَسُّ له ثَرَى

And you see efforts wasted on him,

And you see efforts rendered futile in his eyes,

like abundant rain pouring down, with no damp earth to show for it.

Like generosity - it rains down wherever it senses fertile soil.

فالله يَجزي بَينَنا أَعمالَنا

فالله يَجزي بَينَنا أَعمالَنا

وَضَميرَ أَنفُسِنا وَيُوَفي مَن جَزى

وَضَميرَ أَنفُسِنا وَيُوَفي مَن جَزى

So God will recompense each of us for our deeds

So may God reward between us our deeds,

and our souls’ hidden thoughts, and repay in full whoever has repaid.

And the conscience of our souls, and repay whoever deserves.
