    The foes say, O ‘Azza, the way to you has been barred

    by a relentless serpent upon the road.

    So I said to her: By God, were the way to you barred by

    Hell, Hell would not frighten my heart.

    And how could any terror frighten the heart, O ‘Azza,

    when your face in the darkness is a landmark for travelers?

    فَلا تَنقمي حُبّي فَما فيهِ مَنقَمُ

    And my soul has not wronged you, O ‘Azza, in love;

    so do not resent my love, for there is nothing blameworthy in it.
