عَجِبتُI marveled لِبُرئيat my recovery مِنكِfrom you ياO عَزَّʿAzz بَعدَماafter
عَمِرتُI lived زَمانًاfor a time منكbecause of you غَيرَnot صَحيحِhealthy
I marveled at being cured of you, O ʿAzz, after
I'm amazed at being healed by you, O solace, after
I had lived for a time, unwell because of you.
I had lived for a time with you, nothing wholesome.
فَإِنand if كانَis بُرءُrecovery النَفسِthe soul ليfor me مِنكِfrom you راحَةًa relief
فَقَدthen indeed بَرِئَتit has recovered إِنif كانَis ذاكَthat مُريحيwhat relieves me
And if my soul’s recovery from you is a relief to me,
If being healed in spirit is rest for me from you,
then it has recovered, if that is what relieves me.
Then I am healed if that brings comfort to me.
تَجَلّىfell away غِطاءُthe covering الَرأسِthe head عنّيfrom me وَلَمand did not يَكَدnearly
غِطاءُthe covering فُؤاديmy heart يَنجَليlifts لِسَريحِfor one set free
My head’s covering fell away from me, but scarcely
The cover of my head was unveiled from me, yet
did my heart’s covering lift to leave me free.
The cover of my heart barely clears for respite.
سَلاceased pining القَلبُthe heart عَنfor كِبراهُماthe elder of the two بَعدَafter حِقبَةٍa long while
وَلُقّيتُand I was made to encounter مِنfrom صُغراهُماthe younger of the two اِبنَa son of بَريحِBarīḥ (in an idiom for calamity)
The heart ceased pining for the elder of the two after a long while,
My heart asked about both their prides after an era,
and from the younger of the two I was dealt a ‘son of Barīḥ’—a calamity.
And I met from both their smallness a son of the winds.
فَلاso do not تَذاكُراmention together, you two عِنديin my presence عُقَيبةَʿUqaybah إِننيfor I
تَبينُdeparts إِذاwhen بَانَتdeparted عُقَيبَةُʿUqaybah روحيmy soul
So do not mention ʿUqaybah in my presence, you two, for
So do not discuss with me the consequence, for I
my soul departs whenever ʿUqaybah departs.
Perceive when the consequence of my soul appears.
