May the requiters reward you with radiance on your friend's behalf,

And may my Lord draw you near among the favored company.

For no wrongful claim against you is granted

To an enemy; nor do you shun one who draws near.

And whatever you withhold, you withhold

Rightfully; whatever you give, you do not reclaim.

Whenever you come to them, on any day throughout all time,

You find them established in excellence above other men.

They seem a herd of wild jinn,

At 'Abqar, who, when sent forth, did not vanish.

When robes of Yemeni striped cloth are finely wrought

By the hands of masters practiced in weaving,

The supplier brings them, and they go forth wearing

Matching pairs of those ample, checkered robes.

Their borders trail down beneath the gussets,

Down to the fine-cut sandals of the favored Hadrami.
