وَأَنتand you لِعَينيto my eye قُرَّةٌa delight حينَwhen نَلتَقيwe meet
وَأَنت لِعَيني قُرَّةٌ حينَ نَلتَقي
وَذِكرُكِand remembrance of you فيin نَفسيmy soul إِذاwhen خَدِرَتwent numb رِجليmy leg
وَذِكرُكِ في نَفسي إِذا خَدِرَت رِجلي
And you are a delight to my eye when we meet.
You bring joy to my eyes whenever we meet
And remembrance of you is in my soul when my leg goes numb.
And thoughts of you revive me when my feet grow weary
وَإِنand if رَمِدَتgrew sore عَينايَmy eyes يَوماًone day كَحَلتُهاI applied kohl to them
وَإِن رَمِدَت عَينايَ يَوماً كَحَلتُها
بِعَينَيكِwith your eyes لَمdid not أَبغِI seek الذَرورَthe powder مِنَof الكُحلِkohl
بِعَينَيكِ لَم أَبغِ الذَرورَ مِنَ الكُحلِ
And if my eyes should one day grow sore, I would apply kohl to them
And if my eyes should tire one day, I would line them
With your eyes; I would seek no powdered kohl.
With your eyes - no other kohl do I desire
