    فَرَوضَةُ حَسنا قاعُها فَكَثَيبُها

    Ghayqa lies desolate, its people gone, and so do its flanks;

and Hasna's meadow, its plain and its sandhill.

Dwellings of Asma, whose traces have not been erased

by the Pleiades' successive winds, nor by their frost.

They gleam at the edges of al-Budayʿ, as though they were

a scriptural text, inscribed with a supple palm-stalk pen.

If you will not support those entitled to its due,

nor be found, when aid is needed, among those who answer its call,

then go blameless amid Malik's dispersal,

with sincere counsel and kinship ties whose close kin groan.

And is Malik anything but the lions of Khafiyya,

with fangs bared when they are not granted their due?
