فمنso who قالsaid للأعداءto the enemies حلواءa sweetmeat ملككمyour rule
فمن قال للأعداء حلواء ملككم
ونحنand we إليكمtoward you كالموالهةlike distraught she-camels العُجْلِbereft of their calves
ونحن إليكم كالموالهة العُجْلِ
Who, then, told the enemies, ‘Your rule is a sweetmeat,’
So one who says to the enemies, "Sweet is your kingdom,
while we yearn toward you like distraught she-camels bereft of their calves?
While we are to you like subservient cows,"
