وافغر الكالئين النجم أو كَرَبوا
Until, when summer’s blazing heat blew upon him,
When summer's fires blaze high for him
And the star made the watchers gape—or they nearly did—
And Sirius shines or the stars wane

And the two Shiʿrā stars ushered in the dawn, one of them
The Pleiades escort dawn, half seen
Within it, while the other was veiled by night.
Emerging, and half still night-veiled
