فهذا لهذا ولما رأيت

So this is for that; and when I saw

that there was no escape from a journey,

A journey was no longer underway

وجاء حوادث في مثلها

وجاء حوادث في مثلها

يقال لمثلي ويهاً فُلُ

يقال لمثلي ويهاً فُلُ

and calamities came, in the like of which

And events came about in the like of it

one like me is told, “Onward, fellow!”

It is said to the likes of me: woe, so-and-so!

جعلت المطي دواء الهموم

جعلت المطي دواء الهموم

وذو الطب يعلم ما يجعلُ

وذو الطب يعلم ما يجعلُ

I made the riding camels a remedy for cares,

I made the riding animal a cure for worries

and the physician knows what he administers.

And the one with experience knows what he prescribes

أجدوا النِّعالَ بأقدامكم

أجدوا النِّعالَ بأقدامكم

أجِدوا فَويهاً لكم جَرْوَلْ

أجِدوا فَويهاً لكم جَرْوَلْ

Put new sandals on your feet;

Make the slippers suit your feet

press on—onward! Rocky ground awaits you.

Make what suits you, for you have freedom
