فإياكمso beware, all of you وداهيةand a calamity نآدىdire; grievous
فإياكم وداهية نآدى
أظلتكمhas overshadowed you بعارضهاwith its cloud المُخيلِportending rain
أظلتكم بعارضها المُخيلِ
So beware a dire calamity
Beware the wiles of coquettish Nada
That has overshadowed you with its rain-portending cloud.
Who hides you with her mischievous veil
لعلperhaps لبونهاits milk-giving she-camel ستروحwill return in the evening يوماًone day
لعل لبونها ستروح يوماً
بسيءwith foremilk قبلbefore درتهاher full milk-flow وبيلِbaneful; harmful
بسيء قبل درتها وبيلِ
Perhaps its milch-camel will return one day
Her playfulness may leave someday
With baneful foremilk before her full flow.
With ruin before knowing it, oh my!
وذاand one possessing ودقينtwo downpours ذكَّرهmade it male or virile تمادpersistence; prolongation
وذا ودقين ذكَّره تماد
منof الهلكاتdeadly disasters بالخطبamid the catastrophe الجليلmighty; grave
من الهلكات بالخطب الجليل
And one with twin downpours, made virile by the persistence
If only impassioned love reminded
Of deadly disasters amid a mighty catastrophe.
