الناس في الحرب شتى وهي مقبلة
ويستوونand they become alike إذاwhen ماemphatic particle أدبرturned away القُبُلُwhat lies ahead
ويستوون إذا ما أدبر القُبُلُ
People differ in war while it is approaching,
People in war are diverse when it's brewing
and become alike once what lay ahead has passed.
Yet equal when backs are turned and ruins accrue
قُلَrare (uncertain as written) بأمسيَّهاconcerning its yesterday طَبٌّan expert موليةturning away
قُلَ بأمسيَّها طَبٌّ مولية
والعالمونand those who know بذيabout what belongs to غدوtomorrow بهاconcerning it قُلُلُfew
والعالمون بذي غدو بها قُلُلُ
Rare is an expert in its yesterday as it turns away,
Say of its evenings, sweet is nightfall’s dewing
and those who know its tomorrow are few.
But few can foretell what morn will imbue
