لسرحانfor a wolf الفلاةof the wilderness بهاin it ضبيبُa low whine
لسرحان الفلاة بها ضبيبُ
In a perilous wilderness far from watering places,
The wells of my construction a savage has,
the desert wolf lets out a low whine.
To quench the thirst of the wild plain thereby,
يرانيhe sees me فيin الطعامfood لهto him صديقاًa friend
يراني في الطعام له صديقاً
وشادنةُand a young female العسابرof the hyena brood رعْبليبُa she-hyena
وشادنةُ العسابر رعْبليبُ
He sees me as his friend where food is concerned,
And sees me as a boon companion o'er food,
and so does a young she-hyena.
While the redoubled night-guards fill me with fear.
إذاwhen اشتكياthe two complain إليَّto me رأيتI recognize حقاًa right
إذا اشتكيا إليَّ رأيت حقاً
لمحرومينfor two deprived ones شفهماwasted them both السغوبُhunger
لمحرومين شفهما السغوبُ
When the two complain to me, I recognize a right
If the afflicted complain unto me, in sooth
for two deprived creatures whom hunger has wasted.
Do I see the right's on the side of the poor.
