وما انكحت منا الاسنة خاطباً

وما انكحت منا الاسنة خاطباً

ولا أذنت عُزابنا حين تخطبُ

ولا أذنت عُزابنا حين تخطبُ

And spearheads have given no suitor a bride from among us,

I have not married off my daughters to those who come asking,

Nor have our unwed women consented when courted.

Nor have I allowed our young men to marry when they propose.
