And I stood by her ruins, and there multiplied

Upon me my cares, resembling those who reproach me.

The dwellings of those women who departed from them one evening,

And left my heart amid sorrow and anguish.

And the riding camels did not depart from us alone,

But my soul follows the riding camels.

And had they been fair, they would have trampled—with their hooves, with which

They tread the stones—my flesh and my limbs.

And I used to trail my hem among her people,

Unbridled, with a life of ease and a carefree mind.
