And afterward, in a campaign that was blessed,
After the blessed raid,
The crops of peoples are watered and reaped.

Its cloud reached an elephant with its downpour,
whose heavy rain captured an elephant,
And Sogd, when its doom—the hail—drew near.
and when winter approached, made Sughd shiver.

من المقاسم لا وُخشٌ ولا نكدُ
For he always has plunder that he bestows,
He still had plenty of booty to distribute
From the allotted spoils, neither paltry nor scanty.
with no fear or sorrow in the shares.

Those are the conquests you adduce as proof
These are the openings proven by their argument
Before the caliph that we are a people ready to muster.
to the Caliph, we are the mobilized troops.

لم تثن وجهك عن قوم غزوتهم

حتى يقال لهم بُعْدا وقد بعِدوا
You did not turn your face from a people you attacked
You did not turn your face from the people you raided
Until they were told, 'Perish!'—and they had perished.
until it was said they are far, and they were far.

You were not content that their fortress stood impregnable,
You were not pleased if their fortress was impregnable
Until the One, the Self-Sufficient, was proclaimed great within it.
until the One, the Eternal was glorified in it.
