So, wait, O Qudaʿa; do not be

Slow down, O fate, do not be

Like a lot-arrow fallen between a caster’s hands.

Like a jug that broke between the hands of a beauty

فإنك والتحولَ عن معد

فإنك والتحولَ عن معد

كحالية تزين بالعطولِ

كحالية تزين بالعطولِ

For you, in turning away from Maʿadd,

For you and changing from habit

Are like a bejeweled woman adorning herself by going unadorned.

Are like an anklet adorned by swaying

تغايظ بالتعطل جارتيها

تغايظ بالتعطل جارتيها

وبالإحماء تبدأ والحليلِ

وبالإحماء تبدأ والحليلِ

She vexes her two co-wives by forsaking adornment,

Vexing its neighbors by stopping

And begins with her in-laws and her husband.

And starting with glimmer and fading

وما من تهتفين له لنصرٍ

وما من تهتفين له لنصرٍ

بأسرع جابة لك من هديلِ

بأسرع جابة لك من هديلِ

And no one you cry to for aid

There is no one you cry out to for victory

Answers you any faster than Hadīl.

With a swifter response to you than murmuring
