وَطَعنَةِand many a spear-thrust خَلسٍby stealth كَفَرغِlike the outpouring of الإِزاthe trough's inlet (continued)
وَطَعنَةِ خَلسٍ كَفَرغِ الإِزا
ءِcompletes the preceding word: the trough's inlet أُفرِغَwas poured out فيinto مِثعَبِthe channel of الحائِرِthe pool
ءِ أُفرِغَ في مِثعَبِ الحائِرِ
And many a stealthy thrust, like the gush from a trough's inlet,
poured into the channel of a pool,
طَعَنتُI delivered a thrust إِذاwhen ماemphatic particle after 'when' صُدورُthe breasts of الكُماthe warriors (continued)
طَعَنتُ إِذا ما صُدورُ الكُما
ةِcompletes the preceding word: the warriors بُلَّتwere drenched مِنَwith العَلَقِthe blood المائِرِstreaming
ةِ بُلَّت مِنَ العَلَقِ المائِرِ
I dealt when the warriors' breasts
were drenched in streaming blood.
تُهالُare terrified العَوائِدُthe women visiting the wounded مِنby فَرغِهاits gush
تُهالُ العَوائِدُ مِن فَرغِها
تَرُدُّit drives back السِبارَthe wound-probe عَلىupon السابِرِthe one probing
تَرُدُّ السِبارَ عَلى السابِرِ
The women visiting the wounded are terrified by its gush;
it drives the probe back upon the one who probes.
