أَلَم يَبلُغكُمُ أَنّا جَدَعنا

أَلَم يَبلُغكُمُ أَنّا جَدَعنا

لَدى العَبلاءَ خِندِفَ بِالقِيادِ

لَدى العَبلاءَ خِندِفَ بِالقِيادِ

Have you not heard that we maimed

Have you not heard that we mutilated them,

Khindif at al-ʿAblāʾ with the reins?

Striking with sharp swords at Al-'Ukaadh,

ضَرَبناهُم بِيَطنِ عُكاظَ حَتّى

ضَرَبناهُم بِيَطنِ عُكاظَ حَتّى

تَوَلَّوا ظالِعينَ مِنَ النَجادِ

تَوَلَّوا ظالِعينَ مِنَ النَجادِ

We struck them in the valley of ʿUkāẓ until

Until they fled in disarray

They withdrew, limping, from the uplands.

From the elevated heights.
