لَعَمرُكَby your life وَالمَناياand death’s decrees غالِباتٌprevailing
لَعَمرُكَ وَالمَنايا غالِباتٌ
عَلىover الإِنسانِhumankind تَطلُعُascend كُلَّevery نَجدِheight
عَلى الإِنسانِ تَطلُعُ كُلَّ نَجدِ
By your life—death’s decrees prevail
By your life, and man's mortality
over humankind, scaling every height—
Ever prevails upon mankind in time's passage
لَقَدindeed أَهلَكتِyou (feminine) have destroyed حَيَّةَO snake بَطنِthe valley of أَنفٍAnf
لَقَد أَهلَكتِ حَيَّةَ بَطنِ أَنفٍ
عَلىfor الأَصحابِthe companions ساقاًa leg; figuratively, a support بَعدَafter فَقدِbereavement
عَلى الأَصحابِ ساقاً بَعدَ فَقدِ
you have indeed destroyed, O snake of Batn Anf,
In truth, you've killed a snake in the belly of Anf
a supporting leg for the companions, after bereavement.
