It did not come to raise your standing, for it

Your position did not come undeserved;

was already high among humankind before it.

Indeed, before it, you were highly distinguished among people.

لكنما هي رتبةٌ قد زَيَّنت

لكنما هي رتبةٌ قد زَيَّنت

عمراً زها بجلائل الأعمال

عمراً زها بجلائل الأعمال

Rather, it is a rank that has adorned

But it is a rank that you have adorned

a life resplendent with great deeds.

With a lifetime full of great deeds.

هذي حياتك في استقامة سيرها

هذي حياتك في استقامة سيرها

ونشاطها في الخلق خير مثال

ونشاطها في الخلق خير مثال

This life of yours, in the uprightness of its course

This is your life, upright in its course

and its vigor, is the finest example among humankind.

And active in creation, the best example.

حفلت بكل فضيلة ومبرة

حفلت بكل فضيلة ومبرة

فسمت من العلياءِ أوج كمال

فسمت من العلياءِ أوج كمال

It has abounded in every virtue and act of kindness,

You were endowed with every virtue and benefaction,

and so risen to perfection's summit among the heights.

Thus, you attained the highest peak of nobility.

أنت العصاميُّ الذي ضمنت له

أنت العصاميُّ الذي ضمنت له

عزماتُه في العمر كل منال

عزماتُه في العمر كل منال

You are the self-made man whose

You are the resolute one, whom

firm resolutions have secured every goal in life.

His determinations in life secured every attainment.

إذ أنت أول ما نشأتَ مجاهداً

إذ أنت أول ما نشأتَ مجاهداً

بنزاهة الأقوال والأفعال

بنزاهة الأقوال والأفعال

For from your earliest days you grew up striving,

Since you first came of age, you have been a fighter

with integrity in words and deeds.

With the integrity of words and deeds.

والعيشُ حربٌ لا ينال رغيده

والعيشُ حربٌ لا ينال رغيده

إلا معدُّ عزيمة الأبطال

إلا معدُّ عزيمة الأبطال

Life is a war; none can attain its ease

Life is a war whose prosperity

but one who musters the resolve of heroes,

Can only be secured by the resolute determination of heroes.

من نيةٍ صدقَت وحسن سريرة

من نيةٍ صدقَت وحسن سريرة

طهرت وطيِّبِ سمعةٍ وخصال

طهرت وطيِّبِ سمعةٍ وخصال

from sincere intent and a good conscience

Of sincere intention and virtuous conscience

that is pure, and a good name and noble traits.

You purified and with fine reputation and traits.

تتدبر الدنيا بعقل واضح

تتدبر الدنيا بعقل واضح

كالنجم زاهٍ نوره المتلالي

كالنجم زاهٍ نوره المتلالي

You ponder the world with a lucid mind,

You manage the world with lucid intellect

like a star whose shimmering light shines bright,

Like a bright star, far-reaching is its light.

ومناقبِ الخلق الكريم كأنها

ومناقبِ الخلق الكريم كأنها

زهر الربيع يفوح في الآصال

زهر الربيع يفوح في الآصال

and with virtues of noble character, as though they were

The virtues of people are like

spring blossoms wafting fragrance in the late afternoons.

The spring’s blooming flowers, fragrant in the meadows.

هذي المحامدُ أبلغتك مناصباً

هذي المحامدُ أبلغتك مناصباً

ما أنشئت إلّا لبعض رجال

ما أنشئت إلّا لبعض رجال

These praiseworthy traits have brought you to positions

These praises have brought you positions

established for certain men alone.

That were established but for some men.

للَه أنت أباً يبر بولده

للَه أنت أباً يبر بولده

وبوزجه من طاهر الأذيال

وبوزجه من طاهر الأذيال

God bless you—a father kind to his offspring

To God, you are a father who is dutiful to his son

and to his wife, whose hems are unstained.

And screens him with the purest of manners.

قد أنجبت خير البنين عقيلةٌ

قد أنجبت خير البنين عقيلةٌ

لك شابهتك برائعات خلال

لك شابهتك برائعات خلال

A noble wife has borne the finest sons

A virtuous wife gave you the best of sons,

for you—she resembles you in splendid traits.

Matching you in the wonders of creation.

وكذا السعادةُ أن تعيش ممتَّعاً

وكذا السعادةُ أن تعيش ممتَّعاً

بوفاءِ أولاد وذات جمال

بوفاءِ أولاد وذات جمال

And such is happiness: to live enjoying

And so is happiness for you to live delighted

the devotion of children and of a beautiful wife,

With the loyalty of children and a beautiful wife.

ويكون ما قد نلته من رتبةٍ

ويكون ما قد نلته من رتبةٍ

شرفاً يشار به إلى الأفضال

شرفاً يشار به إلى الأفضال

and for the rank you have attained

And whatever rank you have attained

to be an honor pointing to your merits.

Becomes an honor, pointing to virtues.

فاسعد بأسرتك الحبيبة محرزاً

فاسعد بأسرتك الحبيبة محرزاً

مجداً يحقق أكبر الآمال

مجداً يحقق أكبر الآمال

So rejoice in your beloved family, attaining

So find joy with your beloved family, securing

glory that fulfills the greatest hopes.

Glory that achieves the greatest hopes.

واقبل تهانئَ كل قلبٍ مخلصٍ

واقبل تهانئَ كل قلبٍ مخلصٍ

يدعو لكي تبقى بأنعم بال

يدعو لكي تبقى بأنعم بال

And accept the congratulations of every sincere heart

praying that you may remain in the happiest state of mind.
