Stand over my grave and weep, restoring

My dust to fertility with the water of tears.

And, moistened by them, it will bring forth blossom,

Radiant of face, fresh and dewy.

My slumbering bones will nourish it,

So that life may flow through it and it grow fragrant.

When you breathe in the fragrance, it is my love

That has seeped into the flowers as scent and perfume.

Even if death dissolves the substance of my body,

And it becomes an unsettling thing beneath the soil,

Still, my love for you, after my death,

Lives there, communing with the unseen.

I will send my soul to visit you; listen

To it, throbbing with longing beside you.

I will make it a guardian angel,

To shield you and ward calamities away from you.

And if you visit my grave, take a flower:

It is remembrance, sent to me on your behalf.

For the grave's flower is but the smile

Of a lover, with which he invites the beloved to visit.
