God of humankind, where are the promises and remembrance?

We have thirsted, and the rain has ceased over our homes.

No smiling mouth clears the heart of its grief,

nor a glance whose enchantment makes the breast tremble,

nor a sweet-scented breeze in its full moon,

nor twilight from whose light gold dust pours forth,

nor late afternoons along whose thread lightning flashes,

illuminating the ring's beacon, whose stars are pearls.

Indeed, the mother of the stars has trembled and recoiled,

and every star has gloom upon its features.

It moves toward the vast sea to cast itself

into it, and the sea conceals and swallows it.

to turn the hostile gaze away from our universe?

and he whose virtues abound is not insignificant.

Yet the worst of people in deeds has become the most exalted

in standing, as though evil accompanied glory.
