هذاthis وربِّكby your Lord مثوىresting place كلِّevery إِنسانِhuman being
هذا وربِّك مثوى كلِّ إِنسانِ
فكلُّfor all ماthat which أنتyou راءٍseeing منقضٍpassing away فانيperishing
فكلُّ ما أنت راءٍ منقضٍ فاني
This, by your Lord, is the resting place of every human being.
This, by your Lord, is the resting place of every human
For everything you behold is passing, perishing.
So everything you see vanishing is transient
كذاكthus حَلَّتْshe settled هناhere بنتُdaughter الَّذينَthose who سمواrose high
كذاك حَلَّتْ هنا بنتُ الَّذينَ سموا
فخْراًin pride ومجداًand in glory عَلَىabove الجوزاal-Jawza (a constellation) وكيوانand Saturn
فخْراً ومجداً عَلَى الجوزا وكيوان
Thus settled here the daughter of those who rose
Thus settled here the daughter of those called
in pride and glory above al-Jawza and Saturn.
Pride and glory over Al-Jawza and Kaiwan
ياO قبرُgrave لمdid not تدرyou know ماwhat ضمّنتَyou enclosed منof شرفٍnobility
يا قبرُ لم تدر ما ضمّنتَ من شرفٍ
عالٍlofty تفرَّعsprang forth منfrom (فهرFihr) وand (عدنانAdnan)
عالٍ تفرَّع من (فهر) و (عدنان)
O grave, you did not know what nobility you enclosed—
O grave! You did not know what honor you contained
lofty, sprung from Fihr and Adnan.
A high lineage stemming from Fahr and Adnan
أُمّاهO my mother أُبدلتِyou were given in exchange بالأَملاكِwith the angels مكرُمةًas an honor
أُمّاه أُبدلتِ بالأَملاكِ مكرُمةً
(أهلاًkin بأَهلٍin place of kin وجيراناًand neighbors بجيرانin place of neighbors)
(أهلاً بأَهلٍ وجيراناً بجيران)
Mother, as an honor, you were given angels in exchange:
Her mother was replaced by honored angels
kin in place of kin, and neighbors in place of neighbors.
(A welcome to people and neighbors to neighbors)
ذهبتِyou departed قانتةًdevoutly obedient للهto God صائمةًfasting
ذهبتِ قانتةً لله صائمةً
فكانso it was عيدَكِyour feast لقياmeeting اللهِGod ذيpossessor of الشّانmajesty
فكان عيدَكِ لقيا اللهِ ذي الشّان
You departed devoutly obedient to God, fasting;
She left obedient to God, fasting
so your feast was meeting God, the Majestic.
So her feast was meeting God, the Glorious
ياO بنتَdaughter خيرthe finest أَبٍfather تاريخchronogram يومِكyour day بشglad (first part of 'glad tidings')
يا بنتَ خير أَبٍ تاريخ يومِك بش
رىtidings (completes 'glad tidings') قَدْindeed حُظيتِyou were favored منfrom المولىthe Lord بغفرانwith forgiveness
رى قَدْ حُظيتِ من المولى بغفران
O daughter of the finest father, your day's chronogram brings glad
O daughter of the best father, the date of your day brought good news
tidings: you have indeed received forgiveness from the Lord.
You have been granted forgiveness from the Master
