O Damascus, why does beauty never pass beyond you,
Damascus, what beauty fails to pass by you
so that you alone are endowed with it, with none to share?
Exclusively endowed with it without a partner

His separation has aged him and his head turned white
with baldness; through your father, you grew more majestic.
Baldness, so you increased his majesty through your father
