Enough of reproach when my tears flow in torrents.

Weeping on the morning of Eid has indeed become a duty.

Whoever finds delight in festivals, rejoicing—

I, for my part, have already forsaken joy and merriment.

If you say—may you not!—on this Eid, 'Oh, joy!'

then my cry on your account is ever, 'Oh, my grief!'

Its return has brought harm and sorrows

only to gather their scattered parts together.

The pain we suffer today did not suffice it,

until it brought back upon us the pain that had gone away.

What memories does it bring back to nations

that have squandered glory, eminence, and ancestral honor?
