peace be upon you.

أبتْ أَنْ تذلَّ

النفوسُ الكرامْ

النفوسُ الكرامْ

They have refused to be humbled—

those noble souls.

عرينُ العرو

عرينُ العرو

بةِ بيتٌ حرام

بةِ بيتٌ حرام

The lair of Arabism

is a sacred house,

وَعرشُ الشمو

وَعرشُ الشمو

سِ حمىً لا يضام

سِ حمىً لا يضام

and the throne of the suns

is a sanctuary none may violate.

بروجُ العلاءْ

بروجُ العلاءْ

The lands of al-Sham

are towers of glory,

تحاكي السما

تحاكي السما

ءَ بعالي السناء

ءَ بعالي السناء

matching the sky

in lofty radiance.

فأَرضٌ زَهَتْ

فأَرضٌ زَهَتْ

بالشموسِ الوضاء

بالشموسِ الوضاء

So a land aglow

with radiant suns

سماءٌ لَعَمْرُكَ

سماءٌ لَعَمْرُكَ

أَوْ كالسماء

أَوْ كالسماء

is a sky, by your life,

or like the sky.

رفيفُ الأَماني

رفيفُ الأَماني

وَخفقُ الفؤادْ

وَخفقُ الفؤادْ

The flutter of hopes

and the beating of the heart

عَلَى عَلَمٍ ضمَّ

عَلَى عَلَمٍ ضمَّ

شملَ البلاد

شملَ البلاد

are upon a flag that has brought

the country together.

أَما فيه من كلِّ

أَما فيه من كلِّ

عَيْنٍ سواد

عَيْنٍ سواد

Is there not in it, from every

eye, blackness,

وَمن دمِ كلِّ

وَمن دمِ كلِّ

شهيدٍ مداد

شهيدٍ مداد

and from the blood of every

martyr, ink?

نفوسٌ أُباةٌ

نفوسٌ أُباةٌ

وَماضٍ مجيدْ

وَماضٍ مجيدْ

Unyielding souls,

and a glorious past,

وَروحُ الأَضاحي

وَروحُ الأَضاحي

رقيبٌ عتيد

رقيبٌ عتيد

and the spirit of sacrifice—

a guardian ever ready.

وَمنّا (الوليدُ)

وَمنّا (الوليدُ)

وَمنا (الرشيد)

وَمنا (الرشيد)

And from us is al-Walid,

and from us al-Rashid.

فَلِمْ لا نسودُ

فَلِمْ لا نسودُ

وَلِمْ لا نشيد

وَلِمْ لا نشيد

So why should we not rule,

and why should we not build?
