Your prolonged absence, when will I meet you
and your splendor return to the beloved homeland?
And return to the beloved homeland happily

He longed for you and called out to you

O gatherer of graces, who pours them forth,
O Gatherer of graces overflowing them
will you not spare a little for someone besides yourself?
Why not be generous with an extra morsel for your peer

You are no miser who withholds; rather,
You are not stingy or grudging
none but you is miserly with his glory.
The stingy one has no glory whatsoever

The noble companionship does not deny favors
that anyone following your path by night falls short of matching.
That the one who travels at night falls short of

They followed you wherever you went

And it is a marvel that, for your excellence, they did not
And of the wonders is that they did not envy you for your superiority
envy you, but admired the spreading of your fragrance.
Rather, they congratulated the blossoming of your splendor

O noble son of al-Tuwayni, praise is yours;
O son of the generous Tuwainis, praise be to you
for your two hands have built the house of glory.
For you built the house of pottery with your hands

I have not forgotten the day you arrived in Egypt: to me you were
I do not forget the day you came to Egypt, and you were to me
there like Joseph, triumphant through your purity.
In it like Yusuf, triumphant in your clarity

Love's wine has sent you wandering;
You have wandered astray from the meadow of love
I come to my senses only at the thought of you.
I do not awaken except to your memory

I am that yearning one whom separation has undone,
I am that longing one, whom absence deprived me
cruelly, after our meeting—may you be spared separation!
Unjustly, after meeting you abandoned your intention

The sweetness of reunion stirred, piercing separation;
A good gathering stirred up intention
it scarcely lasted before the sword of your estrangement struck.
No sooner had it lasted than the sword of your separation struck

Love awakened the one slumbering blissfully
though it has not slept since your departure by night.
Although he did not sleep since your departure

Like a breeze that blew upon the hidden embers
beneath the ashes, so that it shone like your radiance.
And uncovered your spearheads

Tell separation that I am steadfast:
Say to separation, I am steadfast
so let it shower your young man with its arrows.
So let it strike me with its deadly arrows

I will not waver until I melt its heart

One day happiness will bring me to the sanctuary,
One day, happiness will gather me with the protector
and I shall almost dance for joy within your sanctuary.
Then I will dance with joy crazily

Or not, so in the blessed Nile there is a watering place
that quenches Khalil's burning thirst when he sees you.
That will quench the anguish of a friend when he sees you
