قَد بَدا بَدرُ الهُدى يَحيي الأُمَم

قَد بَدا بَدرُ الهُدى يَحيي الأُمَم

وَصَفا الدَهرُ فَحَيّا وَاِبتَسَم

وَصَفا الدَهرُ فَحَيّا وَاِبتَسَم

The full moon of guidance has appeared, reviving the nations.

The full moon of guidance has risen, reviving the nations

And time grew serene, offered greeting, and smiled.

The era smiled, delighted, restoring well-being

وَسَما الإِخلاصُ في قَلبِ المَلا

وَسَما الإِخلاصُ في قَلبِ المَلا

فَأَتى المُخلِصُ يوليها النِعَم

فَأَتى المُخلِصُ يوليها النِعَم

And sincerity rose in the multitude's heart,

Sincerity soared in the heart of authority

So the sincere one came, bestowing blessings upon her.

So the sincere one came to endow it with bounty

صالِحٌ تَلقاهُ في أُفقِ العُلى

صالِحٌ تَلقاهُ في أُفقِ العُلى

أَسعَدَ الناسِ وَأَسماها هِمَم

أَسعَدَ الناسِ وَأَسماها هِمَم

A righteous man, you meet him on the horizon of eminence,

A reformer met him on the horizon of supremacy

The most fortunate of people and the loftiest in aspiration.

Bringing joy to the people and elevating their ambitions

حِلمُهُ يَشفي الضَنى يَنفي العَنا وَهُوَ

حِلمُهُ يَشفي الضَنى يَنفي العَنا وَهُوَ

في أَلطافِهِ يَحيي النسم

في أَلطافِهِ يَحيي النسم

His forbearance heals wasting sickness, banishes hardship, and he

His forbearance heals distress and dispels affliction

Revives souls through his gracious favors.

In his gentle ways, giving life to the breeze

فِكرُهُ كَالسَيفِ في جَوهَرَهِ

فِكرُهُ كَالسَيفِ في جَوهَرَهِ

يَجمَعُ الرُشدَ بأَطراف القَلَم

يَجمَعُ الرُشدَ بأَطراف القَلَم

His thought is like a sword in its essence;

His mind like a sword in its essence

It gathers sound judgment at the pen's tips.

Bringing righteousness with the tip of his pen

بِمحقُ الخَطبُ وَلا يَبقى عَلي

بِمحقُ الخَطبُ وَلا يَبقى عَلي

مُشكِلٍ حالَ اِشتِباكات الظُلَم

مُشكِلٍ حالَ اِشتِباكات الظُلَم

By effacing calamity, it spares no

Resolving grave matters, leaving no complex problems

Difficulty amid the entanglements of darkness.

Amid the darkness of turmoil and confusion

قَد دَعاهُ الآنَ سُلطانُ العُلى

قَد دَعاهُ الآنَ سُلطانُ العُلى

بِمُشير المَجد وَالبَدرِ الأَتَم

بِمُشير المَجد وَالبَدرِ الأَتَم

The sultan of eminence has now called him

The Sovereign of Supremacy has now called him

'Marshal of Glory' and the full moon at its fullest.

Advisor of glory and the brightest full moon

وَحَبا أَقطار سوريا بِهِ والياً

وَحَبا أَقطار سوريا بِهِ والياً

يَردَعُ فيها مِن ظُلم

يَردَعُ فيها مِن ظُلم

And endowed the regions of Syria with him as governor,

Bestowing on him governorship of Syria’s lands

Who restrains injustice within her.

To restrain injustice therein

فَغَدَت تَنظُرُ أَنوار الرَجا فيهِ

فَغَدَت تَنظُرُ أَنوار الرَجا فيهِ

لَما لاحَ لِلفَضلِ علم

لَما لاحَ لِلفَضلِ علم

So she began to behold the lights of hope in him,

Thus the lights of hope now look to him

When a banner of excellence appeared.

For the banner of virtue has been raised

تَبسطُ الرَغدَ عَلى وَجهِ الفَضا

تَبسطُ الرَغدَ عَلى وَجهِ الفَضا

وَتريكَ الفَخرَ في رَأسِ الأَكَم

وَتريكَ الفَخرَ في رَأسِ الأَكَم

She spreads plenty across the face of the open expanse,

It spreads prosperity over the face of the land

And shows you glory upon the hilltops.

And shows you pride on the highest summits

إِنَّ لِلدَولَةِ إِفضالٌ بِها

إِنَّ لِلدَولَةِ إِفضالٌ بِها

حسن حال الناسِ بِاليَمَن اِنتَظَم

حسن حال الناسِ بِاليَمَن اِنتَظَم

Indeed, the state has bestowed favors upon her;

The state now favors it

With good fortune, the people's well-being was set in order.

Ordering the good fortune of the people harmoniously

كُلَنا نَرشف مِن أَلطافِها كُلَّ

كُلَنا نَرشف مِن أَلطافِها كُلَّ

عَذبٍ طابَ مِن فَيض الكَرَم

عَذبٍ طابَ مِن فَيض الكَرَم

All of us sip from her gracious favors every

We all draw from its bounty

Sweet draught made delightful by generosity's overflow.

Sweet pure overflowing generosity

فِبِلاد الشام تَهدي بِالصَفا

فِبِلاد الشام تَهدي بِالصَفا

لِلعُلى شُكراً عَلى تِلكَ النِعَم

لِلعُلى شُكراً عَلى تِلكَ النِعَم

So the lands of al-Sham offer, in sincerity,

The Levant offers thanks with joy

Thanks to eminence for those blessings.

For that bounty from the Sublime

مُذ بَدا في أُفقِها رَبُّ الذَكا

مُذ بَدا في أُفقِها رَبُّ الذَكا

يَبذلُ الخَيرَ مُزيلاً لِلسقم

يَبذلُ الخَيرَ مُزيلاً لِلسقم

Since the master of keen intellect appeared on her horizon,

Since the Lord of Wisdom rose on its horizon

Lavishing goodness and dispelling sickness.

Distributing goodness, curing disease

قالَ لِلسُكان ارخ يمنها

قالَ لِلسُكان ارخ يمنها

مخلص الحُبِّ لِسوريا حكم

مخلص الحُبِّ لِسوريا حكم

He told the inhabitants, 'Record the date of her good fortune:

He said to the inhabitants, “Settle in its prosperity”

One sincere in his love for Syria has ruled.'
