May the hand of states hold one like you.

May your bounty ever remain proverbial among us.

Through sound judgment, you have become a man on the horizon of eminence,

Lofty in glory, turning aside for no man.

God bless you—what a hero in the heights!

A signal from his eyes makes a hero's heart bleed.

Your deeds shone with generosity, gleaming

On the brow of the age, leaving no flaw to endure.

So you won the favor of the lord of the realm, our master,

Who revives the people with his bounty's streaming downpour.

He appointed you over radiant Syria, and she rejoiced,

With gladness, praising the generosity of the Eternal One.

He said, “Give al-Sham the gift of Rushdi, to remain over

Her horizons, spreading my justice among the faiths.”

Thus, through you, she became like Egypt—a tale

Of Joseph's bounty in his early days.

As for your years, may all of them bring happiness,

In plenty and ease, over plain and mountain.

Seventy, not seven—we hope for them, and you look forward to them,

With goodness, good fortune, and success in work.

You poured forth joy; with it al-Fayha, sipping

The cup of gladness, reaps the eyes' delight.

Are you not the one who saved her life

With the flood of your kindness after the grievous calamity?

And lovely Beirut warbled for you in

A melody of congratulations, and perfume wafted through the robes.

And the al-Aqsa sanctuary came to have a refuge,

That protects it through your glory, not through sword and spears.

A joy overflowed throughout the universe, granting

Me its richest share, raining down abundantly.

You are the noble hero whom we find to be guidance embodied,

Of the essence of reason, molded from hope.

Held in reverence—every word that issues from his mouth

Has the policies of states built upon it.

Adorning the age in the guiding light of his rays,

Securing the land, the horizons, and the roads.

Whoever sets out to criticize a matter you have judged

Returns with both his palms full of shame.

You protect your admirer from oppression and harm,

Even if he settles in the crooked serpent's lair.

And you terrify the vulture flying free in the heights,

So, out of fear, it scarcely touches the birds.

And whoever you set out to catch has no refuge,

While you, through resolve, are protected from missteps.

Revives the people's hearts and heals them of ailments.

For on your brow is serene, joyful warmth,

Quickly bringing the delegation glad tidings of what it hopes for.

How often you have revived our souls through kindness!

And I offer thanks from my heart and from my heart.

For you are my lord, my treasure, my joy-giver, my supporting arm,

Guardian of my affairs, my champion, the utmost goal of my hope.

No one who has gone to sip wine has enjoyed it

In the morning as much as I have enjoyed thanking you.
