For the sword and pens, a marshal has arisen,

And a minister has appeared, offering wise counsel.

Thus, by Darwish's sword, peace is secured,

And Rashid's reed-pen steers toward good fortune.

This one's hand bestows upon the troops

Good fortune, while the other illuminates the land.

A hero, above whose troops the banner of victory

Rises high; and a governor, the king's evening companion.

    بِهُما عَلى الأَكوان فاضَ سُرورُ

    Two moons have risen in the spheres of glory;

Through them both, joy has overflowed across creation.

They both secured every happiness for the land of al-Sham, so it shone,

And its flourishing region took pride.

So drink the cups at dusk in remembrance of them both,

Two, three, four at a time, as they go round.

Hasten to the goblets; sipping them incurs no

Sin, my friend: there is no wine in them.

But they are Ibrahim's favors, which have gone round,

And Rashid passes them round for good cheer.

O you two seas, truly your bounty

Has flooded the face of the land with its outpouring.

Do not ask for the full praise due to you both

From me, for my reach falls short of that.
