دَوامُكَ في عَلى لُبنا

دَوامُكَ في عَلى لُبنا

ن فيهِ دَوامُ نعمَتِهِ

ن فيهِ دَوامُ نعمَتِهِ

Your abiding in Lebanon’s heights—

therein lies the continuance of its blessing.

وَعُزُّكَ في مَحاصِنِهِ

وَعُزُّكَ في مَحاصِنِهِ

بِهِ تَثبيتُ عِزَّتَهِ

بِهِ تَثبيتُ عِزَّتَهِ

And your might within its strongholds—

by it, its honor is made secure.

أَلَستَ طَبيبهُ السامي ال

أَلَستَ طَبيبهُ السامي ال

لَذي أَحييتَ مُهجَتَهُ

لَذي أَحييتَ مُهجَتَهُ

Are you not its exalted physician,

who brought its heart to life?

وَقُمتَ بِلُطفِكَ اِلهامي

وَقُمتَ بِلُطفِكَ اِلهامي

تَحلُّ بِوَسَطِ مُهجَتِهِ

تَحلُّ بِوَسَطِ مُهجَتِهِ

And you arose with your overflowing kindness

to dwell within its heart.

جَعَلتَ جِبالَهُ بِالجد

جَعَلتَ جِبالَهُ بِالجد

دِ سَهلاً لِلأَمانِ كَما

دِ سَهلاً لِلأَمانِ كَما

Through diligence you made its mountains

level ground for safety, just as

أَقَمتَ شَوامِخاً لِلمَج

أَقَمتَ شَوامِخاً لِلمَج

دِ تَعلو فَوقَ قِمَّتِهِ

دِ تَعلو فَوقَ قِمَّتِهِ

you raised lofty edifices to glory

that rise above its summit.

أَثيرٌ فَوقَهُ لَمَعَت

أَثيرٌ فَوقَهُ لَمَعَت

صِفاتَكَ مِثلَما سَطَعت

صِفاتَكَ مِثلَما سَطَعت

In the ether above it gleamed

your qualities, just as there shone

أَشعتكَ الَّتي طَلَعَت

أَشعتكَ الَّتي طَلَعَت

تَزيلُ غَشا دُجنَّتِهِ

تَزيلُ غَشا دُجنَّتِهِ

your rays, which rose

to lift the veil of its darkness.

تَعوَّدَ منظَرَ الأَنوا

تَعوَّدَ منظَرَ الأَنوا

ر مِن آفاق مَشرَقها

ر مِن آفاق مَشرَقها

It grew accustomed to the sight of lights

from the horizons where they rise.

وَلَولا ذاكَ دُكَّ وَقَد

وَلَولا ذاكَ دُكَّ وَقَد

رَاكَ لِعَظم دَهشَتِهِ

رَاكَ لِعَظم دَهشَتِهِ

But for that, it would have crumbled when

it saw you, so great was its astonishment.

رَأَى دَاودَ عادَ لَهُ

رَأَى دَاودَ عادَ لَهُ

بِعودٍ لِلصَفاءِ جَلا

بِعودٍ لِلصَفاءِ جَلا

It saw David return to it

with a lute, unveiling serenity,

يُخبّر عَن سُليمانٍ

يُخبّر عَن سُليمانٍ

بِحكمَتِهِ وَصَولَتِهِ

بِحكمَتِهِ وَصَولَتِهِ

telling of Solomon

in his wisdom and his might.

مَلَأتَ هِضابُهُ فَرَحاً

مَلَأتَ هِضابُهُ فَرَحاً

بِما قَد حازَ مِن نَعمٍ

بِما قَد حازَ مِن نَعمٍ

You filled its hills with joy

at the blessings it had gained.

ولَولا رَهبَةٌ شَملَت

ولَولا رَهبَةٌ شَملَت

هُ مال لِفَرط بُهجَتِهِ

هُ مال لِفَرط بُهجَتِهِ

And had awe not enfolded

it, it would have swayed from sheer delight.

طَفيتَ لِهيبهُ كَرَماً

طَفيتَ لِهيبهُ كَرَماً

فَأَصبَحَ لِلسلامِ حِماً

فَأَصبَحَ لِلسلامِ حِماً

You quenched its blaze through generosity,

so it became a sanctuary for peace.

نَخال كُهوفُهُ حَرَماً

نَخال كُهوفُهُ حَرَماً

وَأُسعدَ بَعد نَكبَتِهِ

وَأُسعدَ بَعد نَكبَتِهِ

We deem its caves a sacred refuge,

and it was gladdened after its calamity.

وَسُرُّ مَليكنا العالي

وَسُرُّ مَليكنا العالي

بِكَونِكَ في وِلايَتِهِ

بِكَونِكَ في وِلايَتِهِ

And our exalted king was delighted

by your presence within his dominion,

تُساوي في عَدالَتِهِ

تُساوي في عَدالَتِهِ

صُنوفاً مِن رعيتهِ

صُنوفاً مِن رعيتهِ

treating equally, through his justice,

the various groups among his subjects.

فَأَجمَعَ مَجمَعُ الدُنيا

فَأَجمَعَ مَجمَعُ الدُنيا

بانك خَير مُنتَخِبٍ

بانك خَير مُنتَخِبٍ

So the world’s assembly agreed

that you are the best of those chosen.

لَهُ تَبدو مِن العَليا

لَهُ تَبدو مِن العَليا

نَظير أَبٍ بِرَحمَتِهِ

نَظير أَبٍ بِرَحمَتِهِ

To it you appear from the heights,

like a father in his mercy.

وَثَبَّتكَ المَليكُ بِهِ

وَثَبَّتكَ المَليكُ بِهِ

تَزيدُ نَجاحَهُ كَرَماً

تَزيدُ نَجاحَهُ كَرَماً

And the king confirmed you there.

You generously further its prosperity

وَتَردَعُ كُلَّ مُعتَرِضٍ

وَتَردَعُ كُلَّ مُعتَرِضٍ

وَأَنتَ حُسامُ سَطوَتِه

وَأَنتَ حُسامُ سَطوَتِه

and restrain every opponent,

being the keen sword of his might.

فَيا أَبناءَ لُبنانٍ

فَيا أَبناءَ لُبنانٍ

ظَفَرتُم في مَعالِمِهِ

ظَفَرتُم في مَعالِمِهِ

So, O sons of Lebanon,

you have gained, amid its landmarks,

بِأَلطافٍ مِن العَليا

بِأَلطافٍ مِن العَليا

ء تَزهو مثلَ نَضرَتِهِ

ء تَزهو مثلَ نَضرَتِهِ

gracious favors from on high

that flourish like its verdure.

لِواء المُلكِ مُرتَفِعٌ

لِواء المُلكِ مُرتَفِعٌ

عَلَيكُم باسِطٌ أَبَداً

عَلَيكُم باسِطٌ أَبَداً

The banner of sovereignty is raised

over you, forever outspread.

تَدوم لَكُم حِمايَتُهُ

تَدوم لَكُم حِمايَتُهُ

فَدوموا تَحتَ نِعمَتِهِ

فَدوموا تَحتَ نِعمَتِهِ

Its protection endures for you,

so remain beneath its blessing.

وَفا لَكُم الزَمانُ فَكا

وَفا لَكُم الزَمانُ فَكا

نَ مُسعدَكم نُؤرخهُ

نَ مُسعدَكم نُؤرخهُ

Time kept faith with you, and so

became your source of joy; we mark its date:

ْصَفا تَجديدُ دَولَتِهِ

ْصَفا تَجديدُ دَولَتِهِ

“Serene was the renewal of his rule.”
