سعدتrejoiced رُبوعlands الشامal-Sham (the Levant) يَسطَعُshines فَوقَهاabove them
سعدت رُبوع الشام يَسطَعُ فَوقَها
بَدرٌa full moon بِأَبراجِin the constellations of المَعاليglory قَدindeed سَماrose high
بَدرٌ بِأَبراجِ المَعالي قَد سَما
The realms of Syria rejoiced: shining above them,
The lands of al-Sham rejoiced; above them shines
a full moon had risen through the constellations of glory.
A full moon that has risen high in the constellations of glory.
لَماwhen إِنجَلىshone forth قالَsaid الخَليفَةُthe caliph أَرخواrecord the date
لَما إِنجَلى قالَ الخَليفَةُ أَرخوا
رَشديRashdi بِسورياin Syria زَهاflourished وَتَحكَّماand held sway
رَشدي بِسوريا زَها وَتَحكَّما
When it appeared, the caliph said, “Mark the date:
When it shone forth, the caliph said, “Record the date:
Rushdi flourished in Syria and held sway.”
Rashdi flourished in Syria and held sway.”
