Your bounty is clear, free of murk,
Your pure, sincere call untainted by affectation
And praise is clear, free of flattery.
And praise be, pure and free of insincerity

O you of white hands, how many are your
O you of white hands, how much right upon me
Claims upon my neck, so hard to repay!
Is yours, of faithful loyalty around my neck

Who can help me give thanks to match the least of what
Who can thank you enough for the easiest gift
You gave—pistachios and arak:
You brought of pistachios and of syrup

Fruit with scarcely a rival
Of a fruit, few can rival it
Of its kind in taste and fragrance,
In its kind, in taste and fragrance

And of a healing, assuaging nectar, I felt secure with it
Layla's cares and the assault of sleeplessness?
From Layla's worries and the sleeplessness of night
إِذَاwhen شَرِبنَاwe drink نُخْبَa toast to الحَبِيبِthe beloved جَلاَit reveals
لَنَاfor us مُحيَّاthe face of الصَّباحِmorning فِيin الغَسقِthe dusk
When we drink a toast to the beloved, it reveals
When we drink the chosen wine of the beloved, the dawn shone for us
For us the face of morning in the dusk.
At nightfall
وَقَالَand said فِيover النَّقلِnuts served with drinks مَنْone who يُنَادِمُنَاdrinks with us
مَنْwho كَنِقُولاَlike Nicola فِيin الخَلقِappearance وَالخُلُقِand character
And over the nuts, one who drinks with us said:
And he said in the transmission, he who sits with us
“Who is like Nicola in appearance and character?”
Is of our making in temperament and ethics
