كِتَابُكِyour book فِيabout الرَّشِيدِal-Rashid كِتَابُa book صِدْقٍtruth
كِتَابُكِ فِي الرَّشِيدِ كِتَابُ صِدْقٍ
هُوَit التَّارِيخُhistory رُدَّwas restored إِلَىto الحَقِيقَهْthe truth
هُوَ التَّارِيخُ رُدَّ إِلَى الحَقِيقَهْ
Your book on al-Rashid is a book of truth;
Your book on Al-Rashid is a book of truth
It is history restored to the truth.
It is history returned to reality
عَلَىupon أَحْدَاثِهِits events أَرْسَلْتِyou cast ضَوْءاًa light
عَلَى أَحْدَاثِهِ أَرْسَلْتِ ضَوْءاً
تَغَلْغلَpenetrated فِيinto مَهاوِيهَاtheir chasms السَّحِيقَهْfathomless
تَغَلْغلَ فِي مَهاوِيهَا السَّحِيقَهْ
You cast a light upon its events
On its events you shed light
That penetrated their fathomless chasms.
That plunged into its deep abysses
بِأَخْذٍby drawing عَنْfrom ثِقَاتِtrustworthy people الرَّأْيِjudgment فِيهَاconcerning them
بِأَخْذٍ عَنْ ثِقَاتِ الرَّأْيِ فِيهَا
هَدَاكِguided you إلىto رَوَابِطِهَاtheir connections الوَثِيقَهْfirm
هَدَاكِ إلى رَوَابِطِهَا الوَثِيقَهْ
By drawing on those whose judgment of them is trustworthy,
With knowledge from trusted minds therein
You were guided to their firm connections.
It guided you to its intimate connections
فَلَمْand so did not تُخْطِئْكِelude you فَهْماًin understanding وَاعْتِبَاراًand reflection
فَلَمْ تُخْطِئْكِ فَهْماً وَاعْتِبَاراً
مَرَامِيهَاtheir implications الجَلِيلَةِmomentous وَالدَّقِيقَهْand subtle
مَرَامِيهَا الجَلِيلَةِ وَالدَّقِيقَهْ
So, in understanding and reflection, you did not miss
So it did not fail you in understanding and reflection
Their momentous and subtle implications.
On its noble and refined aims
وَكَمْand how many مَغْزَىa meaning خَفِيٍّhidden أَبْرَزَتْهُbrought it to light
وَكَمْ مَغْزَى خَفِيٍّ أَبْرَزَتْهُ
عِبَارَتْكِyour phrasing المُصَفَّاةُrefined الأَنِيقَهْelegant
عِبَارَتْكِ المُصَفَّاةُ الأَنِيقَهْ
And how many a hidden meaning has been revealed
And how much hidden significance it brought out
By your refined, elegant phrasing!
In your refined and elegant phrasing
وَكَمْand how many أُحْجِيَةٍa riddle تَأْبَىresists حُلولاًsolutions
وَكَمْ أُحْجِيَةٍ تَأْبَى حُلولاً
جَلاrevealed لَكِto you حَلَّهَاits solution وَحيُinspiration السَّلِيقَهْinnate intuition
جَلا لَكِ حَلَّهَا وَحيُ السَّلِيقَهْ
And how many a riddle defying solution
And how many riddles that refuse solutions
Has had its answer revealed to you by inspired intuition!
Were solved for you by the gift of apt intuition
تُكَادُalmost بِوَصْفِكِthrough your description الآثَارُthe relics تَحْيَاcome alive
تُكَادُ بِوَصْفِكِ الآثَارُ تَحْيَا
وَقَدْand indeed جدَّتْbecame new رَوَائِعُهَاtheir marvels العَتِيقَهْancient
وَقَدْ جدَّتْ رَوَائِعُهَا العَتِيقَهْ
Through your description, the relics almost come alive,
You almost bring relics to life with your description
And their ancient marvels have been renewed.
Though their ancient marvels had faded
فَعَادَتْso they returned مِثْلَمَاjust as كَانَتْthey were قَدِيماًlong ago
فَعَادَتْ مِثْلَمَا كَانَتْ قَدِيماً
بِإِعْجَابٍof admiration وَإِكْبَارٍand reverence خَلِيقَهْworthy
بِإِعْجَابٍ وَإِكْبَارٍ خَلِيقَهْ
Thus they became once more, as they had been of old,
So they returned as they were long ago
Worthy of admiration and reverence.
With awe and esteem befitting them
رَعَىmay watch over اللهُGod الَّتِيshe who كَتَبَتْshe wrote لَتُرْضِيto please
رَعَى اللهُ الَّتِي كَتَبَتْ لَتُرْضِي
بِنَفْسٍwith a spirit حُرَّةٍfree وَيَدٍand a hand طَلِيقَهْunfettered
بِنَفْسٍ حُرَّةٍ وَيَدٍ طَلِيقَهْ
May God watch over her who wrote to please
May God watch over her who wrote to please
With a free spirit and an unfettered hand.
With a free spirit and unfettered hand
وَلِلآدَابِand for literature أَحْسَابٌnoble distinctions غَوَالٍprecious
وَلِلآدَابِ أَحْسَابٌ غَوَالٍ
إذَاwhen اتَّصَلَتْthey are joined بِأَنْسَابِto lineages غَريقَهْsubmerged
إذَا اتَّصَلَتْ بِأَنْسَابِ غَريقَهْ
And literature has honors of great worth,
And literature holds deeply hidden
When joined to submerged lineages.
When tied to pure and noble lineage
