    فَارْقُدْ عَنِ الدُّنْيَا رُقَادَكْ

    You have completed your struggle for the hereafter;

so sleep your sleep, away from the world.

    You reached your goal early,

and attained the standing you desired.

Alas for you, while it persisted—

    the illness, occupying your pillow.

Your youth came to fight it,

and it kept wresting away your reins.

And against you it enlisted your reason,

    and that brought you sleeplessness,

    thus melting away your strength,

then giving your malady the upper hand over it.

O you who saddened your loved ones

by your absence—I weep for your absence.

Distance stood in the way of a sickbed visit,

    yet the heart visited you.

You demanded great things of your age,

as much as you could—yet it availed you nothing.

The essence of sound judgment is that

your reason should master your heart.

So you began to hunt rare gems

from their hiding places, in a hunt of your own.

    And you fashioned that wording,

unique in its form, as you were unique.

    You were not deceitful, nor

did feigned friendship taint your affection.

    No! Nor did you satirize

anyone, even if he struck sparks from your flints.

Always upon the Most Merciful you placed

    your trust amid calamities.

And through praise of Taha and the Companions,

you make Paradise your place of return.
