You built for Egypt its first treasury,

through which the land's prosperity is secured.

Can the kingdoms of the world stand

without wealth to count or savings?

And can public amenities grow in a land

while the root of wealth bears no fruit?

And does anything urge bold action

as does the sense of being capable?

    فَمَنْ فِي الْقَوْمِ أَوْلَى بِالْفَخَارِ

    Great is what you have done for Egypt's good;

so who among the people is more deserving of glory?

O Talaat, indeed your star is rising

when the stars return to darkness.

So live on for your blessed work, and witness

    prosperity succeeding prosperity.

You graciously extended an invitation, and my heart answered,

but my eye was kept from you by necessity.

So on my heart's behalf I convey my thanks to you,

and on my eye's behalf I hasten to apologize.
