بَرَزْتِyou appeared يَاO آيَةَverse; sign الجَمَالِbeauty فِيin
بَرَزْتِ يَا آيَةَ الجَمَالِ فِي
سُورَةِchapter الحِلْيadornment وَالكَمَالِand perfection
سُورَةِ الحِلْي وَالكَمَالِ
You appeared, O verse of beauty, in
You emerged, O symbol of beauty, in
the chapter of adornment and perfection.
The chapter of adornment and perfection.
وَرَعْتِنَاand you awed us يَاO وَقَارُdignity فِيمَاin what; amid
وَرَعْتِنَا يَا وَقَارُ فِيمَا
لَطُفَتْwas delicate مِنْof فِتْنَةِenchantment الدَّلاَلِcoquetry
لَطُفَتْ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الدَّلاَلِ
And you awed us, O dignity, amid
You graced us, O dignity, with what
the delicate enchantment of coquetry.
Charmed with the temptation of allure.
وَزِدْتَنَاand you added for us يَاO ذَكَاءُintelligence مَعْنًىmeaning
وَزِدْتَنَا يَا ذَكَاءُ مَعْنًى
فِيin زِينَةِadornment الكَوَاكِبِstars المُلاَلِيapparently glittering
فِي زِينَةِ الكَوَاكِبِ المُلاَلِي
And you added meaning for us, O intelligence,
You increased us, O intelligence, in meaning
to the adornment of the glittering stars.
In the ornament of twinkling stars.
فَأَبْدَعَso fashioned wondrously العَقْلُthe mind الرُّوحَthe spirit حِينَwhen يَبْدُوit appears
فَأَبْدَعَ العَقْلُ الرُّوحَ حِينَ يَبْدُو
وَهْوَand it مِنَin respect of الحُسْنِbeauty فِيشunclear; possibly 'in' مِثَالِexemplar
وَهْوَ مِنَ الحُسْنِ فِيش مِثَالِ
So the mind fashioned the spirit when it appears,
The mind created the soul when it appears
and it stands as an exemplar of beauty [text unclear].
As an example of beauty.
وَالخُلُقُand character الحُرُّnoble فِيin نِظَامٍa string; ordered array
وَالخُلُقُ الحُرُّ فِي نِظَامٍ
مِنَof الكَرِيمَاتِnoble qualities فِيamong الخِصَالِtraits
مِنَ الكَرِيمَاتِ فِي الخِصَالِ
And noble character, in a string
And the free character in a system
of all that is noble among traits.
Of noble traits and ethics.
وَالعِلْمُand knowledge يُؤْتَىis given النُّهىreason; intellect جَنَاهُits fruit
وَالعِلْمُ يُؤْتَى النُّهى جَنَاهُ
مِنْfrom كُلِّevery حُلْوٍsweet thing وَكُلِّand every حَالِيlovely; adorned
مِنْ كُلِّ حُلْوٍ وَكُلِّ حَالِي
And knowledge's fruit is bestowed on reason,
And knowledge is granted success, its bounty
from all that is sweet and lovely.
Of every sweet and sublime thing.
رَئِيسَةُchairwoman الحَفْلِthe gathering مِنْof نِسَاءٍwomen
رَئِيسَةُ الحَفْلِ مِنْ نِسَاءٍ
مُهَذَّبَاتٍrefined وَمِنْand of رِجَالِmen
مُهَذَّبَاتٍ وَمِنْ رِجَالِ
Chairwoman of a gathering of women,
The head of the gathering of women
refined, and of men,
Well-mannered and of men
تَضُمُهُمْgathers them نَدْوَةٌan assembly تَجَلَّتْbecame manifest
تَضُمُهُمْ نَدْوَةٌ تَجَلَّتْ
فِيat صَدْرِهَاits forefront آيَةُa sign الجَّلاَلِmajesty
فِي صَدْرِهَا آيَةُ الجَّلاَلِ
whom an assembly gathers, where there has appeared
Brought together in an assembly that revealed
at its forefront a sign of majesty.
In its heart the sign of majesty.
فَنُخْبَةُso the elite الكَاتِبَاتِwomen writers فِيهِin it
فَنُخْبَةُ الكَاتِبَاتِ فِيهِ
كَالعِقْدِlike a necklace مِنْof أَنْفُسِmost precious الَّلآلِيpearls
كَالعِقْدِ مِنْ أَنْفُسِ الَّلآلِي
So the finest women writers within it
The elite of writers among them
are like a necklace of the most precious pearls.
Like a necklace of the finest pearls.
وَقَارُهُits dignity الرَّأْيcounsel; judgment مِنْfrom مَيَامِينblessed men
وَقَارُهُ الرَّأْي مِنْ مَيَامِين
لاَnot يُجَارُونًthey are rivaled فِيin مَجَالِa field
لاَ يُجَارُونً فِي مَجَالِ
Its dignity is the counsel of blessed men
The steadfastness of opinion of the resolute
who are unrivaled in any field.
Who cannot be paralleled in their field.
سُبْحَانَglory be to مُعْطِيكِthe One who gives you فَوْقَbeyond مَاwhat
سُبْحَانَ مُعْطِيكِ فَوْقَ مَا
تَنْتَهِيreach إِلَيْهِto it المُنَىwishes الغَوَالِيcherished
تَنْتَهِي إِلَيْهِ المُنَى الغَوَالِي
Glory to Him who grants you more than
Glory to the One who granted you above
the dearest wishes can attain.
What wishes can attain, O sublime one.
جَدُّكِyour fortune بَيْنَamong الجُدُودِfortunes عَالٍhigh
جَدُّكِ بَيْنَ الجُدُودِ عَالٍ
وَفِيكِand concerning you رَأْيُopinion الكِرَامِthe noble عَالِhigh
وَفِيكِ رَأْيُ الكِرَامِ عَالِ
Your fortune stands high among fortunes,
Your ancestry among the noble ancestors
and the noble hold you in high esteem.
And in you the opinion of the generous is sublime.
