عَلاَمَwhy أَعْرَضْتِyou turned away وَمَاand there is no مِنْany سبَبٍreason
عَلاَمَ أَعْرَضْتِ وَمَا مِنْ سبَبٍ
إِنَّاindeed we وَدَدْنَاكِhave loved you وَمَالَناand we have no غَرَضْulterior motive
إِنَّا وَدَدْنَاكِ وَمَالَنا غَرَضْ
Why have you turned away when there is no reason?
Why have you turned away, for no reason at all?
Indeed, we have loved you, and we have no ulterior motive.
We long for you, we have no ulterior motive.
لاَnot نَبْتَغِيwe seek عَلَىfor الهَوَىlove مِنْany عَوَضٍrecompense
لاَ نَبْتَغِي عَلَى الهَوَى مِنْ عَوَضٍ
وَلِلْهَوَىand for love مِنْfrom نَفْسهِits own self كُلِّall العَوَضْthe recompense
وَلِلْهَوَى مِنْ نَفْسهِ كُلِّ العَوَضْ
We seek no recompense for love.
We do not seek any recompense for our passion -
And love has in itself its full recompense.
Passion itself is recompense enough.
