مَنْwho مُبْلِغٌone who conveys عَلْيَاءَlofty eminence of إِبرَاIbra- (start of Ibrahim)
مَنْ مُبْلِغٌ عَلْيَاءَ إِبرَا
هيمَ-him (completes Ibrahim) تَهْنِئَةَcongratulations of الخَلِيلِthe close friend
هيمَ تَهْنِئَةَ الخَلِيلِ
Who will convey to exalted Ibrahim
Who will convey to the high-minded Ibrahim
the congratulations of his friend,
My congratulations to Khalil
وَمُشَفِّعٌand invoking intercession بِمَكَارِمِthrough noble qualities of الأَخْcharacter (first fragment)
وَمُشَفِّعٌ بِمَكَارِمِ الأَخْ
لاَقِcharacter (final fragment) تَقْصِيرَshortcoming of العَلِيلِthe ailing man
لاَقِ تَقْصِيرَ العَلِيلِ
and invoke the nobility of character
And will intercede with the virtues of his noble character
to excuse the ailing man's shortcomings?
For the shortcomings of the ailing
مَنْwho كَالوَزِيرِlike the minister ازُدَانَhas adorned himself
مَنْ كَالوَزِيرِ ازُدَانَ
بالمَجْدِwith glory التَّلِيدِancestral وَبالأَثيلِand with deep-rooted glory
بالمَجْدِ التَّلِيدِ وَبالأَثيلِ
Who, like the minister, has adorned himself
One who, like the minister, is adorned
with ancestral and deep-rooted glory,
With inherited and ancestral glory
وَاجْتَازَand surpassed فِيin الأدَبِliterature الكَبِيرِgreat
وَاجْتَازَ فِي الأدَبِ الكَبِيرِ
مَدَىthe reach of المُجِيدِينَthe accomplished الفُحُولِthe masters
مَدَى المُجِيدِينَ الفُحُولِ
and surpassed, in great literature,
And has surpassed in great literature
the reach of accomplished masters,
The extent of the most accomplished men
وَجَلاَand revealed فَضَائِلَthe virtues of نَفْسِهِhis soul
وَجَلاَ فَضَائِلَ نَفْسِهِ
فِيin رَوْنَقِthe radiance of الطَّبْعِthe natural disposition النَّبِيلِnoble
فِي رَوْنَقِ الطَّبْعِ النَّبِيلِ
and revealed the virtues of his soul
And has revealed the virtues of his soul
in the radiance of his noble nature?
In the elegance of his noble nature
يَاO خَيْرَbest فَرْعٍbranch فِيamong الفُرُوعِthe branches
يَا خَيْرَ فَرْعٍ فِي الفُرُوعِ
وَخَيْرَand best أَصْلٍroot فِيamong الأُصُولِthe roots
وَخَيْرَ أَصْلٍ فِي الأُصُولِ
O best branch among branches,
O best branch among the branches
and best root among roots,
And best origin among the origins
مِنْfrom دَوْحَةٍa spreading tree مَيْمُونَةٍblessed
مِنْ دَوْحَةٍ مَيْمُونَةٍ
خَضْرَاءَgreen فِيin كُلِّall الفُصُولِthe seasons
خَضْرَاءَ فِي كُلِّ الفُصُولِ
from a blessed, spreading tree,
From a blessed verdant palm tree
green through every season.
Green in every season
هِيَit مَنْبِتُthe birthplace of النبَغَاءِthe gifted مِنْamong
هِيَ مَنْبِتُ النبَغَاءِ مِنْ
أَهْلِpeople of العَزَائِمِresolve وَالعُقُولِand intellect
أَهْلِ العَزَائِمِ وَالعُقُولِ
It is the birthplace of the gifted among
It is the source of genius of
people of resolve and intellect.
The people of determination and intellect
وَفَّيْتَyou fulfilled قِسْطَكَyour share فِيin الجِهَادِthe struggle
وَفَّيْتَ قِسْطَكَ فِي الجِهَادِ
وَلَيْسَand it is not بِالقِسْطِa share (emphatic) القَلِيلِsmall
وَلَيْسَ بِالقِسْطِ القَلِيلِ
You have fulfilled your share in the struggle,
You have fulfilled your duty in jihad
and it is no small share.
And it is no small duty
وَبَذَلْتَand you gave بِذلَكَyour offering فِيin الفِدَاءِself-sacrifice
وَبَذَلْتَ بِذلَكَ فِي الفِدَاءِ
فَأُبْتَso you returned بِالذِّكْرِwith renown الجَمِيلِgood
فَأُبْتَ بِالذِّكْرِ الجَمِيلِ
And you made your offering in self-sacrifice,
And you have sacrificed yourself for it
and so returned with a good name.
To be remembered with a beautiful mention
فَارُوقُنَاour Farouk المَلِكُthe king المُفَدَّىwhom we would die to save
فَارُوقُنَا المَلِكُ المُفَدَّى
هَلْwhether يُقَاسُis compared إِلَىto مَثِيلِa peer
هَلْ يُقَاسُ إِلَى مَثِيلِ
Our Farouk, the king we would die to save—
So enjoy, O our ransomed King
can he be compared with any peer?
Can he be compared to the like of you?
لاَnot يُخْطِيءُerrs التَّوفِيقُright guidance فِيin حَقٍّjustice
لاَ يُخْطِيءُ التَّوفِيقُ فِي حَقٍّ
فَيُنْصِفَso he acts justly وَهْوَwhile he يُولِيbestows
فَيُنْصِفَ وَهْوَ يُولِي
Right guidance never errs in matters of justice,
Success does not miss the truth
so he acts justly as he bestows.
So it judges him while turning away
إِنْعامُهُhis favor السَّامِيexalted علَيْكَupon you
إِنْعامُهُ السَّامِي علَيْكَ
بِذَلِكَwith that اللَّقَبِthe title الجِليلِillustrious
بِذَلِكَ اللَّقَبِ الجِليلِ
His exalted favor upon you,
His sublime favor upon you
with that illustrious title,
With that honored title
سَرَّgladdened البِلاَدَthe land بِمَاthrough what تَجَلَّىbecame manifest
سَرَّ البِلاَدَ بِمَا تَجَلَّى
فِيهِin it مِنْof رَأْيٍjudgment أَصِيلِsound
فِيهِ مِنْ رَأْيٍ أَصِيلِ
has gladdened the land through the display
It delighted the countries with what was revealed
of sound judgment within it.
Of sound opinion in it
فَاهْنَأْso rejoice بِهِin it وتَمَلَّهُand savor it
فَاهْنَأْ بِهِ وتَمَلَّهُ
شَرفاًas an honor لِجِيلٍfor a generation بَعْدَafter جِيلِa generation
شَرفاً لِجِيلٍ بَعْدَ جِيلِ
So rejoice in it and savor it,
So congratulations to you, may you enjoy it
an honor for generation after generation.
