    فَمَا رُتْبَةٌ تَحْلَى بِهَا وَوِشَاحُ

    Those virtues and that eminence are the choicest adornments;

What, then, are a rank that adorns you and a sash?

But the favors of kings, as you see,

Have come in abundance, and generosity is yours.

Ah, beloved are adornments if they clothe

Beautiful meanings, such as souls desire.

And beloved is the young man if he shines in the brocade of his glory,

As dawn shines in the brocade of clouds.

Is Egypt slow to reward her minister,

When his tenure is nothing but generosity and prosperity?

O my lord, live on for glory: you are its mind,

And you are its heart, and you are its wing.

If I have not had the chance to see you and offer congratulations,

Indeed, what is hoped for may be withheld, then granted.
