قَالُواthey said قِرَاكُمْyour hospitality شَعِييٌّunclear word as written
قَالُوا قِرَاكُمْ شَعِييٌّ
كَذَاso; thus بِعَهْدِيas I remember كَانَاit was
كَذَا بِعَهْدِي كَانَا
They said, “Your hospitality is [unclear word].”
They said your recitation is Shia
So it was, as I remember.
That's how it was in my pledge
لَكِنْbut إِذَاwhen قَدُمَgrew old العَهْدُthe past; the remembered time
لَكِنْ إِذَا قَدُمَ العَهْدُ
أَعَقْبَهُfollowed it النُّسْيَاناforgetfulness
أَعَقْبَهُ النُّسْيَانا
But when the past grows distant,
But when the vow comes
Forgetfulness follows it.
