The awe of memory has reached its extent
in the majesty of this great ceremony.
With the grandeur of this great occasion

Look at these crowds, so numerous
the assembly hall can scarcely hold them: you will find Egypt.
The Nile valley is too narrow to contain them

The sadness of a devoted mother
one cherished, who weeps for her dutiful son.

She weeps for a noble man who, in loyalty to her,
She weeps for one so loyal, who exhausted his strength
exhausted his strength and spent his lifetime.
And spent his life in loyalty to her

The passage of time cannot console
something that soothes her burning ribs.
Her grieving, anguished heart

Alas, it cannot comfort her, though she found
she finds a trace of him in her glory.
Glory by following in his footsteps

With wisdom and sheathed swords
he secured success and won victory.
He ensured success and seized victory

He removed an epoch, rotten through
to humiliation, and renewed an age of greatness.
And renewed a glorious age

Days of abundance, an abundance bursting
its treasures to rubies and pearls.
With gems and pearls of treasure

do not read their book merely in passing.
Do not read its pages heedlessly

It is the way of great deeds that their heir
builds upon the traces of what has gone before.
Builds on the ruins of what came before

To paths leading to the like of them

Leaving treasures in its history

Gaining glory and integrity from it

You wore it out, while its youth was threadbare;
You spent it in your youth - what principles!
so put on a fresh, immortal youth.
So wear everlasting, verdant youth

Thus does Egypt reward her liberator
and thus her people excel at giving thanks.
And so does her people give thanks

A people roused by its darkness
indeed, injustices oppress the free.
Oppression overwhelms the free

Its demise was inevitable
to live—or perishing in patient endurance.
So it could live, or else bear doom

bearing the burden of its affairs.
Bearing the weight of its affair

mutual strife has barred its way for an age.
Discord impedes it for ages

a brave man faltered, one to falter out of fright.
When the coward is routed by dread

Faith has not erred in the end
