Success did not fail its companion

in what you wished to build—and it was built.

Can even the most inaccessible thing prove too hard for

those resolves and keen insights of yours?

Egypt's constitution was restored through confidence

in justice—a confidence that neither weakened nor faltered.

    And independence was restored, wrested

from the ravages of time and tribulations.

The people's unity drew its blade

from its sheath, in the grip of rancor.

A select company of leaders was gathered

by a bond that then embraced time.

They followed your guidance, rightly guided—[so they did not?]

stray, with that light upon the paths.

    Glory—whenever it bargained with them—

they gave their lives freely, without rancor.

So rejoice; Saad is the best to begin

with renewed appreciation from the homeland.

If Beauty were asked, "How would you wish

to be, were the choice yours?"

it would say, before all else:

"Oh, if only these eyes were mine!"
