فَسَدَhas become futile التَّوَسُّلpleading فِيin الْبَلدْthe land
فَسَدَ التَّوَسُّل فِي الْبَلدْ
هَيْهَاتَhow unlikely يَصْدقُwill keep his word مَنْwhoever وَعَدْpromised
هَيْهَاتَ يَصْدقُ مَنْ وَعَدْ
Pleading has become futile in the land.
The ways of currying favor have failed in this land
How unlikely that whoever promised will keep his word!
How preposterous, he who makes promises is not truthful
تَرْجوyou hope وَتُلْحِفُand you plead insistently سَائِلاًas a petitioner
تَرْجو وَتُلْحِفُ سَائِلاً
أَمَّاas for المجِيبُthe one who answers فَلاَthen no أَحَدْone
أَمَّا المجِيبُ فَلاَ أَحَدْ
You hope and plead insistently as a petitioner.
You plead and flatter in vain
But as for one who answers, there is none.
But there is none who answers
