يَاO مَنْthose whose عَشَاؤُهُمُtheir supper شَفَىhealed
مَرَارَتِيmy gallbladder وَالكَبِدَاand the liver
O you whose supper healed
O you whose dinner cured
My gallbladder and liver,
my bitterness and my liver!
نَهَضْتُI rose فِيin الصُّبْحِthe morning معَافىrestored to health
وَزَرَعْتُand I sowed البَلَدَاthe land
I rose in the morning restored to health,
I rose in the morning healed
And sowed the land,
and sowed the land
كَالبَطَلِlike a hero المعْتَزِّproud بِالقُوةِin strength
يَمْشِيhe walks صَيِّدَاwith head held high
Like a hero proud of his strength,
like a hero proud of his strength
Who walks with head held high.
walks hunting
طَلَبْتُI sought نَداًa rival غَيْرَexcept أَنِّيthat I
مَاnot وَجَدْتُI found أَسدَاa lion
I sought a rival, but I
I sought prey but alas
Found no lion.
I did not find a lion.
