يَاO مَنْyou who أَتَتْنِيcame to me بِلاwithout سِلْكٍa wire رِسَالَتُهُhis message
يَا مَنْ أَتَتْنِي بِلا سِلْكٍ رِسَالَتُهُ
مَنْظُومَةًcomposed in verse نَظْمَcomposition إِبْداعٍcreativity وَإِتْقَانِand mastery
مَنْظُومَةً نَظْمَ إِبْداعٍ وَإِتْقَانِ
O you whose message reached me without a wire,
O you whose wireless message reached me
composed in verse with creativity and mastery.
Arranged with the rhythm of creativity and mastery
للهِfor God (expressing wonder) زَفْرَةُa sigh مُشْتَاقٍone who yearns تَنَاقَهَلَاunclear as written; likely 'carried it' (تناقلها)
للهِ زَفْرَةُ مُشْتَاقٍ تَنَاقَهَلَا
رَحْبُvast expanse الأَثِيرِthe ether بِخَافِيwith a hidden النَّبْضِpulse رَنَّانِresonant
رَحْبُ الأَثِيرِ بِخَافِي النَّبْضِ رَنَّانِ
What a sigh from one who yearns, [apparently carried]
The sigh of a longing one who conversed with it
by the ether's vast expanse, resonant with its hidden pulse!
The vast ether echoed in the beats of my heart
قَرَأْتُهَاI read it فَشَجَانِيand saddened me صَوْتُthe voice بَاعِثهَاits sender
قَرَأْتُهَا فَشَجَانِي صَوْتُ بَاعِثهَا
كَأَنَّas though فِيin رَأْيِthe sight of عَيْنِيmy eye سَمْعَthe hearing of آذَانِيmy ears
كَأَنَّ فِي رَأْيِ عَيْنِي سَمْعَ آذَانِي
I read it, and its sender's voice stirred my sorrow,
I read it, so the voice of its sender shook me
as though my eye's sight held my ears' hearing.
As if in my mind’s eye, my ears heard
جَاءَتْit came بِمِصْدَاقِwith proof of وُدٍّaffection غَيْرِnot مُؤْتَشَبٍmixed
جَاءَتْ بِمِصْدَاقِ وُدٍّ غَيْرِ مُؤْتَشَبٍ
لَوْif رَابَنِيmade me doubt حِسِّيmy senses وَإِيمَانِيand my faith
لَوْ رَابَنِي حِسِّي وَإِيمَانِي
It came bearing proof of untainted affection,
It came with the sincerity of uncompromised love
should my senses and my faith cast me into doubt.
Even if my senses and faith doubted me
