يَاO مَنْthe one whom تُحَييsalutes مِصْرَEgypt عَالِيexalted شَأْنِهِhis standing
يَا مَنْ تُحَيي مِصْرَ عَالِي شَأْنِهِ
فِيهَاin her رَئِيسُhead of حُكومَةٍgovernment وَزَعِيمَاand a leader
فِيهَا رَئِيسُ حُكومَةٍ وَزَعِيمَا
O you whom Egypt salutes, exalted in standing,
O You who revive exalted Egypt
As her head of government and leader.
Where there is a president and leader
لَكَyou have نَجْدَةٌcourage وَسَمَاحَةٌand generosity وَنَزَاهَةٌand integrity
لَكَ نَجْدَةٌ وَسَمَاحَةٌ وَنَزَاهَةٌ
حَمَتِprotected السَّوَادَthe populace فَلنْso will not يَكونَbe مُضِيمَاoppressed
حَمَتِ السَّوَادَ فَلنْ يَكونَ مُضِيمَا
Yours are courage, generosity, and integrity,
For you there is support, tolerance and integrity
Which have protected the people, so they shall not be oppressed.
You protected the public so there will be no oppression
أَعْظِمْhow great! بِمَاwhat لَكَyou have مِنْof أَيَادٍbenefactions فِيin الحِمَىthe homeland
أَعْظِمْ بِمَا لَكَ مِنْ أَيَادٍ فِي الحِمَى
عَمَّتْspread everywhere وَلَمْand did not تَخْصُصْyou single out بِهَاwith them إِقْلِيمَاa region
عَمَّتْ وَلَمْ تَخْصُصْ بِهَا إِقْلِيمَا
How great are your benefactions in the homeland!
Exert your great efforts in protecting
They have reached all; you have singled out no region for them.
Which spread without singling out a region
كَمْhow many فِيin مَسَاعِيكَyour endeavors الجِسَامِmighty مَفَاخِرٌglories
كَمْ فِي مَسَاعِيكَ الجِسَامِ مَفَاخِرٌ
حَمَدَwas praised الزَّمَانtime بِهَاthrough them وَكَانَand had been ذَمِيمَاblameworthy
حَمَدَ الزَّمَان بِهَا وَكَانَ ذَمِيمَا
How many glories lie in your mighty endeavors!
How many glories in your monumental endeavors
Through them time won praise, though once it was blameworthy.
The times praised which otherwise would have been disgraceful
مِنْfor أَجْلِهَاtheir sake تَلْقَىyou receive وَمَجْدُكَand your glory صَادِقtrue
مِنْ أَجْلِهَا تَلْقَى وَمَجْدُكَ صَادِق
تَبْجِيلَreverence هَذَاthis الشَّعْبِthe people وَالتَّعْظِيمَاand veneration
تَبْجِيلَ هَذَا الشَّعْبِ وَالتَّعْظِيمَا
For these you receive, your glory being true,
Because of them you receive sincere glory
This people's reverence and veneration.
And the veneration of these people
سُؤْلُthe wish of الدِّيَارِthe land وَأَنْتَand you مُبْلِغُهَاbringing it إِلَىto
سُؤْلُ الدِّيَارِ وَأَنْتَ مُبْلِغُهَا إِلَى
بَرthe shore of السَّلامَةِsafety أَنْthat تَعِيشَyou live سَلِيمَاsafe and sound
بَر السَّلامَةِ أَنْ تَعِيشَ سَلِيمَا
The land's wish, as you bring it to
Ask the homelands while you convey to them
The shore of safety, is that you live safe and sound.
To live in safety and security
العِزَّةُpride العقساءُunyielding لاdoes not تَأْبَىforbid عَلَىto
العِزَّةُ العقساءُ لا تَأْبَى عَلَى
بَطَلٍa hero of المَوَاقِفِcritical moments أَنْthat يَكُونَhe be رَحِيمَاmerciful
بَطَلٍ المَوَاقِفِ أَنْ يَكُونَ رَحِيمَا
Unyielding pride does not forbid
Stern glory does not refuse
A hero in times of trial to be merciful.
A champion of great deeds to be merciful
أَيَصُحcan it be sound? حِكْمٌgovernance مِثْلَمَاjust as صَححْتَهُyou set it right
أَيَصُح حِكْمٌ مِثْلَمَا صَححْتَهُ
وَيَكُونُand is فِيin الوَطَنِthe homeland السَّوَادُthe populace سَقِيمَاsick
وَيَكُونُ فِي الوَطَنِ السَّوَادُ سَقِيمَا
Can governance be sound, as you have set it right,
Does a rule like what you corrected endure
While the people in the homeland are sick?
While the public in the nation remains frail?
إِنَّindeed افْتِتَاحِكَyour opening of وَحْدَةًa unit صِحَّيَّةًfor health
إِنَّ افْتِتَاحِكَ وَحْدَةً صِحَّيَّةً
فَتْحٌa triumph سَيَغْدُوwill become فِيin البِلادِthe land حَمِيمَاdear
فَتْحٌ سَيَغْدُو فِي البِلادِ حَمِيمَا
Indeed, your opening of a health unit
Surely your inaugural unity brings health
Is a triumph that will become dear throughout the land.
An opening that will become intimate in the countries
مِنْamong خِيرَةِthe chosen of اللهِGod الَّذِيthe one whom فَوَّضْتَهُyou entrusted him
مِنْ خِيرَةِ اللهِ الَّذِي فَوَّضْتَهُ
وَبِهِand in him الكِفَايَةُcompetence عَامِلاًas a worker وَعَلِيمَاand knowledgeable
وَبِهِ الكِفَايَةُ عَامِلاً وَعَلِيمَا
Among God's chosen is the one you entrusted,
From the best of God whom you entrusted
And he is capable in both action and knowledge.
And through Him sufficient, working and knowledgeable
هَيْهَاتَfar from possible! يُدْأَبُto labor فِيin المَبَرَّةِcharity دَأْبُهُhis diligence
هَيْهَاتَ يُدْأَبُ فِي المَبَرَّةِ دَأْبُهُ
مَنْone who لَيْسَis not حُبُّlove of الخَيْرِgoodness فِيهِin him خِيمَاan innate trait
مَنْ لَيْسَ حُبُّ الخَيْرِ فِيهِ خِيمَا
Far from laboring in charity as he does
Alas! In benignity he persists his course
Is one in whom love of goodness is not innate.
He who does not have the love of good residing in him
يَاO مَنْyou who ضَرَبْتُمْyou have set بِالمُرُوءةِthrough chivalry وَالنَّدَىand generosity
يَا مَنْ ضَرَبْتُمْ بِالمُرُوءةِ وَالنَّدَى
مَثَلاًan example كَمَاas يَهْوَىcherish الكِرَامُthe noble كَريَماnoble
مَثَلاً كَمَا يَهْوَى الكِرَامُ كَريَما
O you who have set, through chivalry and generosity,
O you who set with chivalry and dew
A noble example, such as the noble cherish.
An example as the generous desire
قَدْindeed أَكْبَرَhas esteemed البَلَدُthe land الأَمِينُsecure وَفَاءَكُمْyour fidelity
قَدْ أَكْبَرَ البَلَدُ الأَمِينُ وَفَاءَكُمْ
وَبِمِثْلِهِand through its like كَانَwas العَظِيمُthe great one عَظِيمَاgreat
وَبِمِثْلِهِ كَانَ العَظِيمُ عَظِيمَا
The secure land has held your fidelity in high esteem,
The faithful country has greatly appreciated your loyalty
And through such fidelity the great became great.
And by the likes of it the magnificent become magnificent
أَحْبَبْhow dear! بِكُمْyou وَبِمَنْand those who إِلَيْكُمْto you يَنْتَمِيbelong
أَحْبَبْ بِكُمْ وَبِمَنْ إِلَيْكُمْ يَنْتَمِي
عِقْداًa necklace كَأَحْسَنِlike the finest مَاwhat يَكُونُcan be نَظِيمَاstrung
عِقْداً كَأَحْسَنِ مَا يَكُونُ نَظِيمَا
How dear you are, and those who belong with you,
Love through you and those affiliated with you
A necklace as beautifully strung as can be!
A pact as excellent as it can be organized
لَمْdid not نَلْقَwe meet فِيمَاin what is بَيْنَكُمْamong you إِلاَّexcept أَباًa father
لَمْ نَلْقَ فِيمَا بَيْنَكُمْ إِلاَّ أَباً
وَأَخاًand a brother وَمِعْوَاناًand a ready helper أَبَرَّmost devoted حَمِيمَاaffectionate
وَأَخاً وَمِعْوَاناً أَبَرَّ حَمِيمَا
We have met among you only a father,
Between you we have not found except a father
A brother, and a most devoted, affectionate helper.
A brother, and an intimate and compassionate ally
هَلْdoes? يَسْتَقِيمُgo right الأَمْرُthe matter بَيْنَamong جَمَاعَةٍa group
هَلْ يَسْتَقِيمُ الأَمْرُ بَيْنَ جَمَاعَةٍ
وَالدَّارُand the house تَجْمَعُgathers غَانِماًa winner وَغَرِيمَاand a rival
وَالدَّارُ تَجْمَعُ غَانِماً وَغَرِيمَا
Can affairs go right among a group,
Can an affair be settled between a group
When the house gathers a winner and a rival?
While the house brings together victor and vanquished?
