يَاO مَنْyou who يُرَابِيlend at interest وَالرِّبَاand usury بِالهُدَىwith right guidance
يَا مَنْ يُرَابِي وَالرِّبَا بِالهُدَى
يَحْسُنُis good فِيin الدُّنْيَاthis world وَفِيand in الدِّينِreligion
يَحْسُنُ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَفِي الدِّينِ
O you who lend at interest—and usury, with right guidance,
O you who calculates interest and interest with guidance
is good in this world and in religion—
Acts righteously in the world and in religion
قَسِمَةُa share الخَمْسَةِthe five لَوْif أُنْصِفَتْwere treated fairly
قَسِمَةُ الخَمْسَةِ لَوْ أُنْصِفَتْ
لَقَلَّthen it would be rare أَنْthat تُوفَىit be repaid in full بِخَمْسِينِwith fifty
لَقَلَّ أَنْ تُوفَى بِخَمْسِينِ
a share of five, if treated fairly,
If the 'Khoms' tax was done with justice
would scarcely be repaid in full with fifty.
It would seldom amount to a twentieth
