يَاO مَنْone who نَأَتْwent far away وَالرُّوحُand the soul فِيin إِثْرِهَاher wake
يَا مَنْ نَأَتْ وَالرُّوحُ فِي إِثْرِهَا
هَائِمَةٌwandering مِنْfrom نَزَوَاتِsudden surges الأَلَمْthe pain
هَائِمَةٌ مِنْ نَزَوَاتِ الأَلَمْ
O you who have gone far away, with the soul in your wake,
O you whose spirit comes, while my soul follows,
Wandering, driven by pain’s sudden surges.
Wandering in the throes of pain,
لاdo not تَمْنَعِيdeny الأَرْوَاحِthe souls مِنْfrom قُبْلَةٍa kiss
لا تَمْنَعِي الأَرْوَاحِ مِنْ قُبْلَةٍ
لَعَلَّperhaps رُوحِيmy soul بَعْضُone of تِلْكَthose النَّسَمْthe breaths of life
لَعَلَّ رُوحِي بَعْضُ تِلْكَ النَّسَمْ
Do not deny the souls a kiss;
Do not deny the spirits a kiss -
Perhaps my soul is one of those breaths of life.
Perhaps my soul is one of those breaths.
